| The First Child |
Name: Rei Ayanami
Age: 14
Birthdate: ??
Bloodtype: ?? |
Designated pilot of Evangelion Unit 00. Rei has been undergoing special
training since the Evangelion Development Project began. In effect, she
suffered serious injuries that occurred during a re-activation testing.
Rei is a girl of a few words and has considerable difficulty in expressing
emotion.
In later episodes, Rei is revealed as a clone of Yui Ikari (or what remained
of herin the Eva experiment). The first Rei Ayanami was killed at the hands
of Ritsuko's mother during the same course of events that led to the suicide
of Ritsuko's mother. The second Rei was killed protecting Shinji Ikari during
the attack of the 16th angel. For a brief moment, Rei was able to express
her emotions.
At the final stage of the Complementation Program, she betrayed Gendou,
returned to Lilith out of her own judgement and handed the future to Gendou's
son -- Ikari Shinji.

| The Second Child |
Name: Asuka Langley Soryu
Age: 14
Birthdate: December 4
Bloodtype: O |
Designated pilot of Evangelion Unit 02. Like, Rei Ayanami, Asuka has
undergone special training. She is three-quarters German and one-quarter
Japanese. Born and raised in the United States, Asuka hates to lose at anything.
Asuka graduated from university at the age of 14. She is referred to as
The Second Child (The Second Qualifier).
In the later part, we find out that Asuka's outside personality was meant
to mask her own true feelings about herself, her family and everyone around
her. Within her, Asuka feels almost the same way as Shinji: lonely. It all
happened during the suicide of her mother, which led her to grow into a
character of extreme agressiveness. She could only maintain her mental balance
by making outward noises about her excellence.
Trumatized during her encounter with the 15th Angel, which raped her
mind. Asuka is now replaced by Kaoru Nagisa.

| The Third Child |
Name: Shinji Ikari
Age: 14
Birthdate: June 6
Bloodtype: A |
Considered to be the main character of the story. Shinji is the designated
pilot of Evangelion Unit 01. His mother died when he was still little. He
and his father, Gendo have been living separately for at least a decade.
However, a sudden message from Gendo brings Shinji to Tokyo-3 and NERV.
On the same day, an Angel attacks the city. As a chosen Evangelion pilot,
he fights on, though thoroughly agonized. He is referred to as the Third
Child (The Third Qualifier).
He has a quiet and overachieving type of personality.

| The Fourth Child |
Name: Touji Suzuhara
Age: 14
Birthdate: December 26 |
A classmate and close friend of Shinji Ikari, Touji is a hot head who
is very direct in expressing his feelings.
Touji's sister was hurt during Shinji's first fight inside the Evangelion,
however, Touji has learned to forgive Shinji for this happening, and instead
has become a close friend of Shinji. He becomes the pilot of Evangelion
Unit 03 for a short period of time. Where he lost one leg and one arm when
Unit 01 was forced to destroy Unit 03 because of an Angel contamination.
After the incident which resulted to the destruction to Tokyo-3, he moved
away with his family to find a safer living place.

| The Fifith Child / 17th Angel |
Name: Kaoru Nagisa
Age: 14
Birthdate: September 14
Bloodtype: Blue |
Born on the same day as the Second Impact, little is known about Kaoru
Nagisa. He suddenly appeared in Tokyo-3, sent by SEELE themselves to replace
Asuka Langley Soryu who lost her ability to pilot the Evangelion Unit 02.
Within days, Kaoru was able to surpass the 2 other children in terms of
synch tests and was the higest synch pilot of Evangelion (he can actually
choose his sych rate by will). His sych rate was high enough that he did
not require to sit inside the entry plug to control the Evangelion.
However, his true nature was revealed when he was actually the 17th Angel,
the prophet of destruction. He was killed by Shinji when Shinji crushed
Kaoru with his bare hands.
